The sultry pop superstar Britney Spears (nicknames : Brit and Pinkey) was born on December 2, 1981, in Kentwood, LA. She spent summers schooling at New York's Off-Broadway Dance Center and the Professional Performing Arts School. She earned a role on the off-Broadway play Ruthless in 1991. A year later, she became a Mouseketeer in The Mickey House Club, and was part of the show from the time she was 11 until she was 13. She and fellow-musketeer pop-hunk Justin Timberlake dated for a number of years, but went their separate ways in 2002.

After returning home for a short time to become a "regular" high school student in Louisinia for a year, Spears was signed to the Jive record label and over the next two years recorded her debut album with producers Eric Foster White and Max Martin. Released in January 12,1999, this album ‘Baby One More Time’ was a smash hit and rocketed her to superstardom. By September, Baby One More Time had sold over 6 million copies.
Spears' second album, ‘Oops!...I Did It Again’, hit stores in May of 2000. With 1.3 million copies sold in its first week in stores, the album became the top-selling debut by a solo female artist ever. It earned Spears two more Grammy nominations, for Best Vocal Pop Album and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Spears released her third album, Britney, in November 2001.
In February of 2002, Spears starred in her first major motion picture, Crossroads, bringing her back to her roots in acting. Playing a young woman named Lucy, Spears savvily tied-in the release of the film with several singles from her 2001 recording Britney. The film wasn’t a hit, but Spears' debut did not go ignored by the annual Razzie Awards, however, where the neophyte acress shared a trophy with her idol Madonna for Worst Actress of 2002.
Britney’s personal life has been a roller-coaster ride. Her breakup with Justin Timberlake was followed by an annulled impromptu marriage to childhood pal Jason Allen Alexander in 2003. Spears married dancer Kevin Federline in a much-publicized wedding in September 2004. Their first child, a son, was born on September 14, 2005. Their second son was born on September 12, 2006. Spears later divorced Kevin. However, this split hit Britney emotionally and she turned to medication to get through it. She was seen carrying several types of anti-depressants in her handbag.

In mid February 2007, Britney made headlines when she shaved off her hair. The hair has been put on sale on eBay for $1 million, by the salon where she shaved her own head. A few days after the hair incident, Britney checked into rehab in Antigua.
Britney has always been known for hard partying and her love for tattoos. She has a tattoo of a small black star inked on her right hand, a pink pair of lips on her wrist and a black-and-white cross on her hip. Britney lists Madonna and Mariah Carey as her idols and her trademarks are showing her midriff during performances and lip-synching and synthesizing vocals.
